Cinco de Mayo brings out the celebratory and the rebellious in all of us! Old Town and Old Town Market San Diego celebrate with a fiesta that includes Mariachi bands, a Low-Rider car show, Ballet Folklorico dancing, and a petting zoo for kids!
San Diego’s historic Old Town welcomes thousands of guests who want to join in on the festivities. We dress up for the dances or we dress down like the peasants who defeated the French Army in 1862.
The reason Cinco de Mayo brings out our happy, rebellious spirit?
Six thousand French soldiers and cavalry descended on Puebla, just 100 miles from Mexico City. This army was the greatest in the world at the time.
Four thousand Mexican “rebels” defended the countryside armed with farm implements, antique rifles, and sheer guerilla force. The guerillas were simple country people – farmers and craftsmen who followed “General” Ignacio Zaragosa and won!
Join us as Old Town Market presents the Fiesta Cinco de Mayo by featuring the vibrant colors, products, and flavors of Mexico. ¡Orale!
